GEMINIāS WOKE SNAFU
You know that nice olā saying, āThe road to hell is paved with good intentions?āĀ
Well, Googleās been paving that road one disaster at a time.Ā
They got into hot water this week, when people started using Gemini to create historical images.
How bad is it?Ā
Well, Iāll just let you take a look for yourself:
Looks a little different than the history you were taught in school eh?Ā
Googleās attempts at racial and gender diversity have created a model thatās just a little too woke to be accurate.
After all the backlash online, Google addressed the issue, calling it āoff the mark,ā and suspended Gemini's ability to create images of people.Ā
But, of course, where thereās smoke, thereās fire.Ā
And people started really going at it:
every single person who worked on this should take a long hard look in the mirror.
absolutely appalling.

The outputs of these models are the direct result of how it was trained, which reflects the values of the people that built it... aka Google engineers.Ā
Now are all AI models biased to some degree?Ā
Of course, but people hold Google to a different standard.Ā
And it looks like this is just the tip of the iceberg for these guys.Ā
Letās just say itās a good week not to be Sundarā¦Ā
BITE SIZED HEADLINES
Nvidia crushed earnings this week, sending their stock up a whopping 17% after it reported beats on revenue, EPS, and net income. It sold $18.4bn of datacentre AI chips in Q4, up from $3.3bn in Q4 2022. Now, the stockās at an all time high, and Nvidia is more valuable in terms of market cap than both Amazon and Google š¤Æ. Itās currently the 4th most valuable company in the world behind MSFT, Apple, and Saudi Aramco. Wild.
After getting delayed a few years, Reddit finally filed for their IPO, and theyāre giving a portion of the shares to their top users.Ā If you qualify, you get the option to purchase the stock at the same price as institutional investors. Time to boost that karma, people!Ā
Apparently, Appleās Vision pro costs $1.5K to makeā¦no wonder itās so dang expensive.
Google is gonna pay Reddit $60M per year for access to real time AI training data. It's also giving Reddit access to Vertex AI, which is their AI service that helps companies improve their search results.
After over a decade of hyping us up for an Apple car, theyāve finally pulled the plug. Looks like Tim got us all riled up for nothinā.
Nvidiaās Jensen Huang says kids probably donāt need to learn how to code anymore. Why? AI is gonna kill coding (by doing it for us). Whew! Saving us business majors from a lotta regret.

Resourcefulness is probably the most underrated trait. In my experience, itās usually what separates the best from the rest.
