Happy Thursday, friends. This is Bite Sized Beta. Weāre the Temu to your tech Superbowl. We just keep cominā back with more.Ā Ā
But for real, is it just me or did everyone else also learn that it's "teh-moo" not "tee-moo?"
Hereās what weāve got on deck this week.

FRESHLY BAKED
LYFT SAYS, āMY BADā
You know the saying, āthere are no mistakes in life, just lessons learned?āĀ
Well Lyft learned a big lesson this week when it reported earnings.Ā Ā
Overall, it was a strong earnings readout all around, where they met revenue expectations and beat on earnings per share.
But investorsā ears really perked up when Lyft said that their profit margin would increase by 500 basis points, or 5%.
5%? Count me in!!
The stock shot up 67% on the news.Ā
As it turns out, the poor finance analyst putting their earnings report together meant 50 basis points, or 0.5%, sending the stock crashing back down and erasing most of the gains.Ā
All we know is, whoever sold Lyft stock on Tuesday made a killing.Ā
HOT OUT OF THE OVEN
ZUCKāS VISION PRO REVIEW
Zuck reviewed the Vision Pro this week on his IG reels and unsurprisingly, he concluded that Quest 3 is the better device.Ā
Yeah no sh*t, Sherlock.Ā
But listen to his rationale and thoughts on the ecosystem.Ā
Why Zuck thinks Quest 3 is the superior headset:Ā
Price, since the Vision Pro is $3.5K vs the Quest 3, which is ~$500
Meta has a deeper immersive content library than Apple
The Quest 3 weighs 120g less than the Vision Pro
The Quest 3 allows for greater range of motion since itās unwired and has a wider field of view than the Vision Pro
Questās combination of hand tracking and physical controls is great especially for gaming
Where he admits Apple has the lead:
Higher resolution display
Better eye tracking
(Not mentioned: Appleās deep hardware expertise and existing developer ecosystemā¦ )Ā
He then went into a whole spiel about how all platforms have open and closed ecosystems, and said that Meta would be the open ecosystem to Appleās walled garden.Ā
Sound like iOS and Android, anyone?Ā
Soā¦ whereās Google in all this?Ā
Well, last year, they announced a partnership with Samsung/Qualcomm to launch mixed reality headsets this year.Ā
But rumor has it, itās still at least another year away, making them more than a few years late to the game.Ā
Weāll be following where they land in all this and whether Metaās head start can help them muscle their way to the top.
FROM THE COOKIE JAR
POLL OF THE WEEK: WHO WILL COME OUT ON TOP IN THE HEADSET WARS?
So Metaās got some lead time in VR, Appleās got the best design team out there, and Google/Samsung/Qualcomm have the largest existing hardware user base in the world.
Letās take some predictions. Who do you think will make the best selling headset?

BITE SIZED HEADLINES
OpenAI hit a $2 billion run rate this past December, making it one of the fastest growing startups ever.
Sam Altman is trying to raise $7 trillion to build new chip factories to power AIās future. Thatās more than the US federal budget, and equivalent to buying 1,254,480,300,000 Big Macs.
Google rebrands Bard to Gemini and rolls out a new Android app and $20/month subscription to compete with ChatGPT. (If youāre an iOS user, you can now find Gemini in the main Google app.)
Remember Bolt? That troubled ecommerce startup that was valued at $11B 2 years ago? Well some investors are now selling shares back to the company at a $300M valuation. Wooof. Guess thatās what happens when youāve got fraud accusations on your back.

It's easy to capitalize on momentum at the start of a project, but for the long game, itās the showing up that counts.
